The harder part is working out what is worth saying, who should say it and how to make people listen.
For more than twenty years, we’ve worked in factual television where finding the story is as important as shooting it. A lot of the work happens before filming starts. Working out who the story is really about, what’s actually happening and what’s worth following. Sometimes that means finding something that’s already there. Sometimes it means developing the idea and creating the opportunity for something to happen on camera. That’s the part we bring to branded films too.
We don't manufacture meaning.
We find what makes the story matter.
Most businesses already have something that sets them apart.
The Challenge Showing It.
In a way people notice and remember.
What makes a business different isn't always obvious. It might be why it was started, the way its people work, what they believe in or the impact they have on someone else. That's where we find the story.
OUR APPROACH
KNOWING WHERE THE STORY IS.
Twenty years of factual television has taught us that the best story isn't always the one you planned to tell.
READ THE ROOM
Real people rarely give you the story in a neat, rehearsed answer. You have to listen, read what’s happening and know when to keep digging.
KNOW WHAT MATTERS
A shoot gives you hundreds of moments. Experience tells you which one changes the story, which one the audience will remember and which ones don't belong in the film.
FOLLOW THE UNEXPECTED
The best moment is often the one nobody planned. Knowing when to abandon the questions, turn the camera and follow what is actually happening is where factual television experience matters.
WHAT WE CREATE
FILMS BUILT AROUND REAL STORIES.
Before production begins, we collaborate with you to decide what the film needs to say, who should say it and why the audience should listen.

BRAND FILMS

BRANDED CONTENT
A story worth watching, even without the logo.
TWENTY YEARS OF KNOWING WHAT TO LOOK FOR.
Twenty years in factual television teaches you to recognise the moment that matters. To read people, react when things change and know when something unexpected is worth following. That experience shapes every story we tell.
Technology changes.
Story doesn't.
NOT EVERY PROJECT IS RIGHT FOR BLACKSTAR.
If we don't believe we're the best company to tell your story, we'll tell you. We'd rather recommend someone better suited than produce work that falls short of what your story deserves.
